With a big group it often takes forever to get going, and the slow going is contagious. I was one of the first people to be up and in the end I was the last one to be ready. Definitely not earning the Trailhead name today:-) It was about 11 am until we were done taping Charlie's feet and were on our way. It was a good climb over Phipps Pass where we had lunch.
We joined PCT at mile 1111, from there it was only about a mile to middle Velma lake. We found plenty of camp spots and had time for a swim.
