The forecast was true, on the next morning thick clouds were overhead and it had started snowing, some sleet, mostly graupel at first just like near Wanda lake. I saw one hiker going up the trail in the morning while I was still in the tent. I decided that it is safer to stay and wait for the weather to clear up again.
Snow is coming
Unfortunately it didn't clear and by the afternoon it had started snowing heavily.
By 2pm Sunday
I was busy getting snow off the tent. The tent works well overall, but isn't designed for snow because it is not steep enough for the snow to slide off on its own. At times I had to shake off the snow every 15 mins to prevent the tent from collapsing.
Here is a short video
By Monday the trail was gone
Luckily I was not alone anymore as Sophie, Emily, and Hanna, three JMT hiker arrived Sunday night and setup camp nearby. They also waited out the storm.
I think we all felt better that we met. I would have not attempted to cross the pass alone with that much snow, it's dangerous and it is also a lot of effort for one person to break trail in deep snow.
They were happy that I had GPS map apps for the trail and was able to check the weather forecast with the Satellite messenger.
On Monday afternoon we shared some snacks and played a round of Yahzee.
Now let's hope for better weather tomorrow.
